«Not a word from Lanciotto» Il Tirreno

FLORENCE. Four hundred euros fine to Lanciotto Campi, the club that last Sunday, on the occasion of Eccellenza’s match against Castelfiorentino, was suspended after the illness that occurred Mattia Giani, should have guaranteed the presence of an ambulance on the sidelines or a doctor. This is what the territorial sports judge of the Tuscany Regional Committee established, Cleto Zanelligathered together with the college of substitutes, assisted by a representative of The Hague, and reported in the official statement number 74 published yesterday.

Four hundred euros on one side and a life cut short on the other: these are the two sides of the same coin. In the meantime, the silence of Campigian society continues. They did not call Mattia’s family, composed and devastated by grief. “It’s certainly something I would have liked,” said the footballer’s father, Sandro Giani -: they could have said a word, but in the end it doesn’t interest me that much.” You didn’t add anything else, annihilated by an inexplicable pain and still waiting for too many answers.

And even yesterday, Lanciotto didn’t feel it was necessary to say anything: «We are still under press silence – they repeated to us -, any statements, if they call us, we will release them to the judiciary». The judge summarized the provision in a few words: «Based on the findings, a fine of 400 euros was decided for lack of ambulance and/or doctor: sanction commensurate with the service omitted, taking into account the fact that occurred».

According to the regulation, every time the race director notes on the report the absence of an emergency vehicle and personnel identified as doctors, a fine of 70 euros is imposed in the case of a first violation, which increases to 100 in the event of a possible relapse. Yes, it’s true the fine was increased almost sixfold, but in the same bulletin it emerges that the throwing of a smoke bomb on the pitch (with a brief interruption of the game), in a multi-recidivist club (Ponsacco 1920) was sanctioned with a fine of 1100 euros. Almost three times more than what was exceptionally established due to the absence of an ambulance. This is why we need a cultural revolution, capable of changing the federal statute and guaranteeing the obligation for the match director who notices the lack of a doctor or emergency vehicle not to give the starting whistle.

In the same report, reference is also made to the version explained by the race director with an additional note. «Mattia Giani collapsed to the ground due to an illness. He was helped by the guest masseur and a doctor present in the stands who intervened with cardiac massage and the use of the defibrillator present in the changing rooms. The first ambulance arrived after 17 minutes and was assisted by other volunteers who arrived a few minutes later with another vehicle. In light of the discouragement, there were no longer the conditions for the continuation of the meeting, which was suspended.”

The judge also added: «It is worth underlining how the respect for the serious event also by the Lanciotto club and the members of the referee panel is a symptom of observance of the values of solidarity and sporting fairness». The match will be restarted on April 24th, starting from the 14th minute, while on Sunday Group A of the Eccellenza championship was stopped due to mourning, with the round postponed by a week. In fact, the match on the 24th with Lanciotto will be the first match played for Castelfiorentino after Mattia’s passing, when the wound on the heart will inevitably bleed again. Too.
