He dies crushed by the elevator before the eyes of a woman who was in the cabin and who he had been called to free after the elevator broke down. Yet another workplace accident with fatal outcomes in Sicily during normal repair operations on a system in a condominium. The victim is actually an elevator maintenance worker. His name was Antonio Pistone and he was 31 years old.
The man was stuck between the elevator cabin and the door of one floor of the same elevator. It happened in a condominium in Aci Sant’Antonio in the Catania area where he was carrying out a repair.
The intervention of the firefighters
To free the worker’s body, the intervention of the firefighters of the Acireale detachment and the provincial command of Catania was necessary. 118 also intervened on site but the doctors were only able to confirm the death.
The tragedy under the eyes of a woman
The tragedy occurred before the eyes of a woman who was stuck inside the elevator cabin. The maintenance staff had been called to free the woman by unblocking the elevator which had broken down and remained stuck between the floors.
The firefighters, after extracting the unfortunate victim, also rescued the woman in an obvious state of shock and entrusted her to medical staff for initial treatment.
The investigations are entrusted to the Carabinieri who have also activated the specialist unit that deals with work.
The precedents in Sicily
Accidents at work in Sicily are a dramatic constant. another victim was registered in Campofelice di Roccella last February. A 50-year-old worker was left under the collapse of a wall of a house under renovation in via Madonnina di Gibilmanna. The worker died.
Also in February, a worker was the victim of an accident at work which occurred in the Pietre nere district, in Melilli, in the Syracuse area. The man was transported by air ambulance to the Cannizzaro hospital in Catania in serious condition. But the list could be much longer than that
