Municipal buildings, methane consumption decreasing: 530 thousand euros saved

The intervention, control and monitoring strategy of methane gas consumption implemented by the municipal administration of Cesena and by Energie per la Città, the Authority’s in-house company, from 2011 to 2023 guaranteed a reduction in consumption equal to 5,862,000 cubic meters of gas equivalent to an economic saving of four million 897 thousand euros, as well as an overall consumption of four thousand families.

This is the data that emerges from the energy balance report drawn up by Energie per la Città.

In the 2023-2024 thermal season, with the temperature limitations for public and private buildings at 19° degrees and thirteen hours a day and following 20 energy requalification interventions in as many school buildings, but also due to the favorable climatic conditions, consumption of methane gas in the Municipality’s public buildings was further reduced compared to the year 2021, with an economic saving of 532,620 euros per year.

There are 53 public buildings equipped with an energy diagnosis, of which 38 school buildings, 12 other public buildings such as the Malatestiana Library and some neighborhood offices and 3 gyms. A monitoring conducted on 40 school buildings highlighted that each of them was involved in at least three energy efficiency interventions. n reference to the Bonci city theatre, the intervention involved the energy requalification of the heating system with the replacement of the existing boilers with condensing boilers and the installation of heat pumps for the production of domestic hot water.
