The funding from the Liguria Region for the recovery of the ancient Pharmacy of the Friars of Chiavari amounts to 270 thousand euros, out of a total of 300 thousand. The building was the subject of a joint inspection by the regional Urban Planning and Construction councilor Marco Scajola and the mayor Federico Messuti at the conclusion of the stage, dedicated to the Genoese area, of the Liguria Rigenera Tour.

The project aims to redevelop the historic building to return it to the city, by the summer, as a cultural hub to be used as a venue for exhibitions and exhibitions. Currently the restoration and reinforcement works on the vault and those dedicated to the frescoes have been completed, while the lighting and heating system as well as the restoration of the flooring remain to be completed.

“A valuable intervention that fits perfectly into a broader cultural project that the Municipality of Chiavari, thanks to the contribution of the Liguria Region, is carrying out and which also includes the Cantero theater – explains the regional councilor Marco Scajola -. We give life back to a historic building of great value by following the policies of reuse and recovery of the existing one that we have placed at the center of the regional urban regeneration program for years. We will thus return a space of absolute value to the community capable of also acting as a point of attraction for tourists.”

“We will reopen the Farmacia dei Frati to the public, a unique structure of its kind, which the majority of Chiaresi do not know about. The restoration will allow us to create a multifunctional space for events and presentations. It is part of the Capoborgo complex, together with the Auditorium, Palazzo Rocca and its park, of which redevelopment works are underway with the resources of the Pnrr – comments the mayor of Chiavari Federico Messuti – Piazza Matteotti, which overlooks the Cantero theater which we will purchase thanks to the Region will also become a widespread cultural centre, with over 1500 seats in total, for events, concerts and conferences. An important project to enhance our heritage which could become a driving force for the entire Tigullio”.

Before Chiavari, the Liguria Rigenera Tour stopped in Favale di Malvaro where councilor Scajola, accompanied by mayor Ubaldo Crino, viewed the recovery site of the Molino Vecchio, beneficiary of a regional contribution of 200 thousand euros out of the 220 thousand total cost. The building has currently been emptied and repairs to the roof have begun. The internal work will begin at a later date.
