They are the children of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th classes of the “Giovanni Amadio” primary school in Controguerra, part of theCorropoli-Controguerra-Colonella Comprehensive Institutethe winners of the 1st prize of National competition “Olio in Cattedra”as 2023/2024, “Bimboil” Section, announced byNational Association of Oil Cities. The competition, of national importance, saw the participation of 6270 students, coming from 429 classes and 93 schools from over 100 Italian municipalities.

The educational project led the young students, during the school year, to participate in a series of initiatives aimed at discovering and promoting the culture of oil and the olive-growing landscape, including visits to the oil mills and museums of Controguerra, lessons topics and laboratory teaching. The five classes of the primary school and the 1C class of the secondary school of Controguerra, under the guidance and support of their teachers, have produced works that tell the world of oil, in an original and inclusive perspective, which takes into account of the history and traditions of the territory, but which opens up to the world and multiculturalism.

In particular, the work produced by primary school children, a recipe book entitled “We… little pinkies“, we read in the Jury’s motivation, “is complete and well structured, consistent with the indicated theme and original for the choice of using leaves from the olive tree which contain different elements whose common thread remains the EVO Oil, described in the history, in religion, in poetry, in the tales of ancestors and myths”.

The children of 1C of the secondary school, however, created a digital exhibition with gods panel exhibitions containing images, documents and drawings on the world of oil, with the possibility of interacting and listening to stories, anecdotes and curiosities from the voice of the little “guides” both on the production of oil in Controguerra, in the past and present, and in the rest of the world .

The mayor of Controguerra, Franco Carletta, and the delegate councilor for Public Education, Matteo Di Natale, express great satisfaction, congratulating the children and teachers for the valuable recognition obtained, and thanking the management and school staff, the parents and all local figures who lent their support to the realization of the project.

The awards ceremony for Controguerra students will take place on May 14th in Rome, at the Europa Space, managed by the Office of the European Parliament in Italy and the Representation in Italy of the European Commission.
