TRIESTE (ITALPRESS) – Bringing a large delegation of the Somali Government and Parliament to Trieste, bringing it together with the institutional and university representatives of Friuli Venezia Giulia to discuss synergistic territorial development projects, represents a factor of particular importance and strategicity for the link between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Somalia. The events promoted in recent weeks by the Somali Community of Trieste confirm how the regional law on the Integrated System of interventions in the field of immigration is giving concrete results: this law, in fact, encourages interest in welcoming initiatives that offer development potential to the territories through international partnerships. It is the summary of the thoughts expressed by the regional councilor for local authorities Pierpaolo Roberti at the opening of the conference “Somalia: from the search for the past to the prospect of the future”, underway today in the Main Hall of the Venezia Giulia Chamber of Commerce in Trieste.

The in-depth day is organized by the Italian-Somali cultural association Sagal, with the aim of strengthening the collaborative relationship with Italian institutions and, in particular, those of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The councilor indicated the opportunity to follow up on the topics on the agenda at today’s conference, in order to make the collaboration agreement with Somalia ever closer. Not only for the historical bond between the two countries and for the thread that unites Trieste and Mogadishu as port cities and crossroads of peoples, but also for the possibility of exploiting common experiences to grow together. An exchange which, according to the representative of the regional council, can go beyond the economic and commercial sphere by also embracing the cultural one, as evidenced by the photographic exhibition on the historical-urbanistic evolution of Mogadishu which will be inaugurated tomorrow afternoon in Porto Vecchio. In this regard, the councilor also noted how the images on display highlight further points of contact with the Central African country and how Friuli Venezia Giulia can implement awareness-raising work for the conservation of the historic buildings and cultural heritage of the Somalia. The seminar was opened by the president of the Somali Community of Trieste and continues with two panels, one dedicated to urbanization in the cultural history of Mogadishu and one on urban issues linked to the development economy in Somalia. This will be followed in the afternoon by a round table entitled “Mogadishu: advantages of the urban planning structure and economic opportunities are the current key challenges”, in which the regional councilors for local governments and employment will also participate. photo: Friuli Venezia Giulia region press office (ITALPRESS) . tvi/com 17-Apr-24 12:34 .
