Macerata gas leak, inspection in the “red zone”: work is underway to re-establish normality (VIDEO and PHOTO) – Picchio News

Just over a week after the serious gas leak which affected the area near via Cluentina, a Piediripaimposing the immediate evacuation of several homes and commercial activities, we went to the place where two teams of the plocal oilled by the commander Danilo Doriathey showed us the various phases of intervention implemented during and after the emergency.

Providing a technical explanation of how traffic management took place in a particularly complex moment of the emergency is the local police commander himself, who was keen to specify how the absolute priority was, first and foremost, that of protection of people: “Given the particularly busy area during rush hours, such as midday, which sees the transit of numerous buses, first of all, we created a detour right in the intersection area, affected by the gas leak; area which then involved a wider perimeter; the Torquati roundabout, via Annibali and the Rifer Gomme part”.

“We managed to limit traffic – he continues – and get people to move away as much as possible until it arrived Italgas and the series of activities to further secure the area began. So the priority was the protection of people then, when we began to understand the cause, what the escape could derive from, we employed part of our local police, led by the deputy commissioner Nicola Feliciani, who then managed the assessment phase for administrative and criminal findings”.

“Therefore, the local police – specifies the commander – has moved both for the repressive phase for the traffic problem and then also for protection, as far as all citizens are concerned”.

Doria then explained how the local police and the Municipality of Macerata intervened on the spot to provide assistance to the citizens, who found themselves suddenly outside your home, amid concerns and fears: “With councilor Renna and social services, through the Prins project, we mobilized promptly to provide assistance to the population. I must say that the entire municipal machinery rushed forward immediately, setting up a first reception point near the Torquati bar roundabout and those in Piazza Salvo D’Acquisto. This allowed all the people involved direct assistance both from a nutritional point of view, with food and drinks, and psychologically to help them in a particularly difficult moment from an emotional point of view”.

Furthermore, the support from the Municipality also came through the provide housing for evacuated inhabitants; during the week between 9 April – the day the gas leak occurred – some of the residents, comprising 11 families, were hosted in B&Bs and hotels.

The deputy commissioner enters into the dynamics of the intervention carried out by the local police Nicola Feliciani, who provided a detailed account of the work, aimed at providing a reconstruction, as detailed as possible, for the evaluation of possible crimes: “We mainly dealt with the crystallization of the area and the events that occurred; for this reason, the vehicles of the companies that were operating were seized. In this case, obviously, everything is useful for the reconstruction of any crimes that are being investigated from a criminal or administrative point of view. Therefore, it was important to seize the vehicles as any element could be useful for the reconstruction of what happened.”

Finally, after having entered into the merits of the reduction of the ‘red zone’Commander Doria went on to explain why a stretch of road still remains closed to traffic, partially maintaining the previous provisions: “With the further ordinance, which was disclosed the day before yesterday, the ‘area’ has been partially restricted red’, allowing residents in those buildings who had been excluded to return to their homes and who have now seen electricity restored again. Now, thanks to the restriction carried out, the return of citizens to their homes and to other commercial activities is underway. This closure on the stretch of road must remain at the moment because passages have been opened under the roadway to ensure that the methane, which has soaked into the sewers, can escape. The closure was therefore carried out both for the manholes and for the holes, made by Italgas, to let the gas escape: for this reason we have organized 24-hour services to be able to manage the emergency immediately”.
