The wave of strong winds continues throughout the Lombardy region and also for today it was takenby the regional Civil Protection, a further weather alert for the risk of forest fires.
The strengthening of northerly winds began yesterday morning in the Alps and north-west sectors, lasted and extended into the afternoon, especially in the central-western areas as well as in the Alpine and Pre-Alpine areas, and then eased in the evening starting from the plain areas; in the remaining areas the reinforcements were less insistent and continuous, with a brief episode of rotation from the East between late afternoon and early evening on the eastern sectors, during which some local gusts reached 70 km/h. Reinforcement of ventilation, even foehn, may cause a general drying of the air with increasing degree of danger especially for the fine fuel.
And so, for the day of TodayWednesday 17 April, Foehn ventilation is also provided from the northern quadrantsespecially in reinforcement in the morning and afternoon hours in western areas: a further lightweight is favored increased level of dangerparticularly on the western sectors, locally hindered in the central-eastern areas from possible local rain showers between late morning and afternoon.
It is therefore noted that the weather-climatic conditions and the humidity of the vegetable fuel will be such as to generate possible fires with high fire intensity and rapid propagation in the Verbano and Lario areas (areas with orange alert color code). In the Valchiavenna, foothills, pre-Alpine range and Oltrepò where there is a yellow alert code, we note the persistence of conditions favorable to the development and spread of forest fires with low fire intensity and slow propagation.
