In the countryside of Rotello, in the province of Campobasso, a new one will be built advanced agrivoltaic system called “Solare Rotello – Plan of the fountain”. Its design and final development were entrusted to Myenergyan energy sector company led by Primiano Calvowho carried out the work on behalf of Podini SpAfrom a project by the engineer Fernando Sonnino and the geologist professor Alfonso Russi.

A work, which will be built on a farmland approximately 81 hectaresand will have one nominal installed power of 43,298.50 MWp.

The system involves the use of bifacial photovoltaic modulesmounted horizontally on a tracker-type metal structure and is defined as “advanced type” agrivoltaic” as it adopts solutions aimed at preserve the continuity of agricultural cultivation activities on the site installation, respecting the requirements introduced by the Guidelines on Agrivoltaic Systems.

It is expected that the facility will have a net production of 75.00 GWh/year of electricity from renewable sources, contributing to reduction of CO emissions2 in the atmosphere. However, there is no shortage of controversy, which we have reported in recent days. In particular, it is said that Molise has already given in this field: essentially, this region is remembered mainly when it comes to placing energy plants, which often have an impact.

However, the surface not occupied by photovoltaic panels, as the promoters of the initiative inform, will be cultivated in a manner five-year rotationby the local Remo Vassalli agricultural companymaintaining the existing production direction with an rotation between the typical crops of the area: chickpea, barley/oats, broad bean, rapeseed, barley/oats.

This is an important work, both as regards the transition process towards the production of clean energy, which is becoming increasingly urgent, and to support the economic development of the regions of Southern Italy – he comments Primiano Calvowho is also director of DEVELOPa trade association of renewable energy developers, created with the aim of opening dialogue with the institutions on these issues – Agrivoltaic systems have numerous advantages, as they allow the production of energy with low environmental impact, while the panels provide shelter for crops in the event of heavy rainfall or extreme heat. Contrary to what happens with other works, which negatively impact the territory in which they are located, this represents an added value, respecting and protecting it”.

The project involves the production of “green” electricity, without emissions of polluting substancesaligning with community and national policies, combining the production of electricity from renewable sources with protection of agricultural activityas well as with high standards of agronomic, environmental and naturalistic sustainability. This allows fossil combustion to be eliminated, thus allowing a solution with minimal impact on humans and the surrounding environment. The problem of visual impact remains.
