VAST. The Vasto Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested the dismissal of the investigation into the death of Jois Pedone, 20 years old, the economics university student in Parma found lifeless among the rocks of Punta Penna on the morning of August 22, 2022. The decision was notified to the family of the boy together with the contents of the investigations, a folder of 1,700 pages. For the family, a new pain that adds to the heartbreak of the loss of the boy. A pain that time has not at all allayed and which is now exacerbated by the unsolved mystery surrounding the university student’s death. “We don’t give up,” says Jois’ uncle, Rino Pedone. “We will appeal convinced that my nephew did not take his own life.” For the moment the boy’s family members do not intend to add anything else.
The Vasto Prosecutor’s Office investigated for a year and a half for incitement to suicide. There were never any suspects, but the magistrate heard numerous testimonies, from the taxi driver who took Jois to Punta Penna to other people who were in the area that night. The boy was found in a vertical position near an overflow with a bag full of 40 kilograms of sand tied to his ankle. A “zeta” is printed on his neck. A sort of brand that, however, does not appear on the photos taken immediately after the discovery. It was Uncle Rino himself who noticed that strange mark and who, together with the boy’s parents, opposed the dismissal of the case as suicide. A belief that is reiterated. The boy’s family is certain that the young man died due to an esoteric ritual that got out of hand. But who participated in that ritual? Who tied the weight bag to his ankle? Questions left unanswered. A disturbing story surrounded by so many questions that it has also prompted Rai 3 and the program “Chi l’ha visto?” conducted by Federica Sciarelli to return to the case several times. A new episode will soon be dedicated to Jois Pedone. For the family, Jois’s death was actually the tragic epilogue of an esoteric ritual or in any case a game that ended badly. The boy’s grandmother, Pious Queen, since the day his nephew’s lifeless body was found, he has been carrying on a personal battle. And now she’s ready to fight again.
On the evening of his disappearance, August 20, 2022, Jois, after finishing his work shift, had informed his mother that he would go out with some friends “to have some fun”. But he never returned home. Mary Nora Ramundi he last said goodbye to his son shortly after one o’clock, he was smoking on the balcony looking at the moon, then he went out. Jois Pedone’s body was found two days later among the rocks under an overflow at Punta Penna with a bag full of sand as ballast, attached to his ankle. It was the coast guard who spotted him. The autopsy ordered on the young man by the Prosecutor’s Office highlighted drowning as the cause of death. Family members are convinced that Jois did not dive to kill himself. “We will not have peace until the death of my nephew is clarified,” Rino Pedone repeated yesterday.
