The action to combat the phenomenon continues scams against the elderly. For some time now, all territorial forces have been called upon to carry out an incisive containment and repression action, not separated from continuous information campaigns. In this context, and in line with the directives already given by the provincial command of Frosinone, late yesterday evening two criminals of Neapolitan origins arrested (a forty-nine year old and a thirty-four year old) responsible for a scam against an elderly man from Sestri Levante (GE).
In particular, yesterday evening the two men from Campania came across an inspection by the military of the mobile radio unit of the Carabinieri company of Pontecorvo and of the San Giovanni Incarico station. Both were engaged in an extraordinary service of control of the territory when, near the exit of the toll booth of thePontecorvo A1 motorwaythey stopped two subjects who were near a fuel station intent on refueling.
Given their origin which did not justify their presence in the area at that time, further investigative investigations were carried out which made it possible to ascertain that both of the suspects had probably perpetrated a 30,000 euro scam against an elderly man from Sestri Levante, in the province of Genoa. The action of the Ligurian colleagues was fundamental for the control who, following the investigations started immediately after the elderly man’s complaint, reconstructed the entire affair and, from an in-depth analysis work on the video surveillance systems of their territory, they managed to identify the car with which the crime had been committed fraud spreading its research at a national level.
Sestri’s colleagues themselves acquired testimonies and other images of the alleged perpetrators, making the search activities easier. Precisely thanks to the immediate investigative action conducted by our Ligurian colleagues, who coordinated with all the territorial companies heading south (given the emphasis of the alleged fraudsters), the local operations center ordered the intensification of checks just before the motorway exits and this proved fundamental in stopping the two suspects. The soldiers, after having ascertained that the car was the one indicated by the Sestri police force, proceeded with a personal and vehicular search and found, under the seats of the car, the sum of 30,000 euros approximately and gold jewelery worth approximately 5,000 euros, which the two Campanians had defrauded from the elderly Ligurian during the morning.
Their modus operandi was the same that they have continued to use for some time, i.e. calling the victim’s home to whom they report a phantom road accident in which one of their family members is involved and for which, to avoid arrest, the disbursement of a large sum of money is necessary. And this is what happened in Sestri where the two arrested subjects, through these methods, managed, with tricks and deception, to come into possession of a large sum of money and, not satisfied with this, to also have the precious items delivered for then walk away. The elder, the scam was discovered, in desperation, alerted the police at the local station to whom he told them that he had given the two criminals everything he had, his life savings. Fortunately, thanks to the synergistic work carried out by the Pontecorvo command with that of Sestri Levante, it was possible to return what was stolen from the eighty-four year old who, in addition to the money, found serenity and a smile for the happy ending of a bad story. For both those arrested, the Cassino prosecutor ordered that they be placed in the local prison.
