What objective do you propose if you ask for an open Municipal Council on Healthcare?
To make controversy one might suspect an urgent political jolt after two sleepy years and to distance ourselves from the burning issue of photovoltaic fields.
Aside from controversy, it could be used to force the highest regional authorities to go out of their way to make promises and make commitments, perhaps even to meet again in a year with another open City Council to see how many promises have been honored and how many commitments kept.
What does Daniela Ghergo do instead when opening the session?
He puts in a series of political attacks, at times exaggeratedly polemical, to immediately mark the battle ground, put the guests in difficulty and push them into a corner.
As it was easy to imagine, the guests in the corner don’t let themselves be cornered and what’s more they have a series of advantages that, if you attack, you should have foreseen: they are the majority in the country and, unfortunately also in the Marche region, they have inherited a regional health situation ruined by the private management of the PD (which is the relative majority party that supports Mayor Ghergo), they have actually carried out a reform and have put a director from Fabriano (Giovanni Stroppa) at the head of our local company and finally they have the data, which Mayor and his standard-bearers, they could have asked the aforementioned Stroppa, as sarcastically underlined by councilor Baldelli, before making populist and inconsistent interventions.
So from a political point of view the majority has achieved a disastrous failure.
We have not been able to extract a single promise but we have been listening to the actions that were already announced some time ago and which are, in fact, already on the table: the construction of the emergency building, the strengthening of paediatrics which can already count on a renewal of the technology park and from May have some beds for 24-hour hospitalization. The majority even received a nasty slap from councilor Saltamartini who was able to boast a collaboration with the Fabriano Patient Tribunal thanks to which an experiment for services dedicated to the diabetic population will start in Fabriano. Another opportunity disastrously missed by the majority who are very comfortable in their own castle of arrogance, snubbing everything that comes from outside not only from the minority but, even worse, not even from the territory.
Then there is the non-secondary issue of the lack of parking when the Emergency Building is built and the work on the Community House is finished. But this deserves a separate study.
The Region, however, said nothing about the requests of the doctors who intervened, nothing about the lack of professionalism in the area, psychiatry, child neuropsychiatry with already intolerable damage to families and minors, with over 60 children still awaiting an evaluation from the teams multidisciplinary as we underlined with the speech of Vinicio Arteconi which was echoed by the more staid, although also harsh, speech of Giancarlo Sagramola from the majority benches. The testing of the Smart Village project is also affected by the lack of personnel.
The Regional Council has already committed itself to financing specialization grants for doctors but not all of them have been used: the Marche Region is increasingly less attractive for new doctors who prefer to go elsewhere. Fabriano is even worse off.
We managed to extract a half-promise from councilor Baldelli who spoke of 7 million euros to be allocated to the recovery of the unusable wing of the hospital to finance a project that is starting now and also announced by Director Stroppa. This seems to be the only real news and a commitment to be held accountable for.
A missed opportunity and a very bad page even for the progressive political forces because the inadequacy of this majority succeeded in the incredible feat of making President Acquaroli use phrases such as “it is our task not to leave anyone behind”, “it is intolerable to have to resort to the paid doctors and to the cooperatives to guarantee the services”, “we have not accredited with the private sector one more bed place than those we have found”.
It is therefore incumbent on citizens to keep the health issue in their hands, which has the task, as already requested some time ago by the City Council and reiterated by Sergio Romagnoli of the 5 Star Movement, of establishing a permanent working group open to citizens that monitors the commitments already hired by the Region and those it has yet to hire.
The Mayors of the area are responsible for the initiative of a cognitive and programmatic conference for mountain healthcare with the neighboring regions which involves the Ministry, institutions, bodies and stakeholders.
The Council and the majority will hole up in their own Titanic, reveling in having given the Right one of the most dramatic contributions to winning the elections in our territory. But about this, we hope with all our hearts that we are wrong.
