Bologna, 9 April 2024 – “We are following the evolution of the very serious accident that occurred about two hours ago at the Suviana dam. The world of work will respond.” This is the post on social media of the CGIL of Bolognafollowing the news of the explosion to the hydroelectric power plant of the Suviana basin in the Bolognese Apennines. Also the CGIL of Emilia-Romagna on Facebook expresses “great anguish for the fate of the workers of the Suviana power plant”: “We are following with apprehension the evolution of the searches and evacuation of the plant and we hope there are no other victims in addition to those already announced”, writes the union on Facebook. “This umpteenth massacre at work brings us makes us even more determined to continue the fight to the bitter end until there is a clear and radical change in the conditions in which we work today”, we read in the post. Rainews also intervenes Ilvo Sorrentino, national secretary of Filctem: “We are shocked and worried. We cannot go on like this: it is not possible that in 2024 we can still die at work.” In these dramatic hours, the unions are trying to find information following the accident which, at the moment, has three dead, three injured and six missing. There are four helicopters, five ambulances, a medical car and numerous fire brigades on site. The explosion occurred, according to initial information, in one of the two power plants that regulate the basin at a depth of 30 metres. According to what was reported by the prefect of Bologna, Attilio Visconti, maintenance work was underway at the power station.
