The Territorial Control section of the Municipal Police of Sciacca has issued around twenty fines and this morning the officers return to action in the San Michele district where the weekly market takes place. An ever-increasing number of residents in this area of the city, taking advantage of the market every Saturday, leave bags full of unsorted waste on street corners to benefit from an extra day of sorted waste collection, in addition to Thursday.

The service workers go to the neighborhood late on Saturday morning to collect the waste left by the market operators. The municipal police checks which waste is collected from market traders and which is collected from residents. The waste is opened to trace who abandoned it and in some cases the offenders have been caught red-handed. For the “crafty people of San Michele” not going to the recycling center or keeping the waste until the collection day costs 50 euros. They could also go by taxi to leave it at the plant in the Perriera district.
