Marina Berlusconi doesn’t agree and attacks Massimo Giannini for his column on Friday dedicated to the late father Silvio. In his space on the weekly, the former director of The print he commented on what he believes to be an attempt at beatification of the Knight experimented in the pages of Paolo Del Debbio’s latest book, “In nome della libertà”, in memory of the former leader of Forza Italia, with the preface by his firstborn. A point of view that was not liked by the president of Fininvest, who replied to the journalist with a letter to Republic.

In his comment, Giannini raised the problem of memory in Italian politics, reporting some adoring judgments from the right-wing press on the “spiritual and moral testament” by Silvio Berlusconi, reported in Del Debbio’s publication.
“Now – writes Giannini, having returned to Republic after leaving the management of The print – no one wants to tarnish a leader who made a piece of Italian history, who no longer exists and cannot replicate. But we remembered another Berlusconi. That of the groom Mangano and the links with Cosa Nostra, that of conflicts of interest and ad personam laws, that of the attacks on the Colle and the togas, that of Putin’s bed and Gaddafi’s tent. But we are wrong, let’s be clear. As Einstein said, memory is the intelligence of idiots.”

Giannini’s comment provoked the Marina Berlusconi’s reactionwho with a letter addressed to his newspaper contested point by point the passages cited by the journalist.
“I understand well that when someone has an obsession it is very difficult to get rid of it – is the reply of the Cavaliere’s eldest daughter – For example, I read that Massimo Giannini, in his column on Friday, continues to rage against Silvio Berlusconi even now that he’s no longer here. Indeed, using ironic tones that are truly in poor taste, he speaks of her alleged beatification.”
In her response, the president of Fininvest gives her clarifications on the events that concerned her father’s political history remembered by Giannini, from Mangano to the conflict of interests, from Putin to Gaddafi, accusing the editorialist of being moved by an “obsessive thought ” that has nourished and guaranteed professional careers which otherwise – perhaps – without an enemy to hurl themselves against daily and blindly, would not even have existed”.
Giannini’s rejoinder
Below the letter from the Cavaliere’s daughter published in Repubblica, the letter was not long in coming Giannini’s rejoinder: “I thank Marina Berlusconi for her attention, but I want to reassure her about my ‘obsession’. I’m not at all obsessed with her father figure. Least of all, in my column on Friday, I ‘raged’ against him. Instead, I criticized those who sanctify it, forgetting History.”
“Del Cavaliere, in his last years, I have learned to appreciate kindness, reciprocated by him towards me – underlined the editorialist – But political judgment, as I told him several times in our meetings at Palazzo Grazioli, is something completely different from human relationships”.
