Born to Manichaean heretical parents, the innate rectitude of his heart made him immediately understand where the truth lay. At seven years old he learned the Creed in Catholic schools, which for him will not be just any formula, but a principle of life and a light that will illuminate his path forever. Having entered the Dominican Order, longing for the holy struggles for the faith, in the long years of preparation for the future apostolate, he laid the foundations of that robust sanctity which truly made him an athlete of Jesus Christ.
One day he confided to a brother that since he was a priest, celebrating the Holy Mass, at the elevation of the chalice he had always asked the Lord for the grace to die a martyr, such was the ardor of his faith and his charity. Appointed General Inquisitor for Lombardy in 1242, he relentlessly fought the heretics with the sword of the divine word, until he was killed at their hands, as he had predicted, on the road from Como to Milan.
