The protest was therefore called by the national secretariats of the trade unions following the breakdown of the negotiating table with Federdistribuzione for the renewal of the employment contractexpired for more than 51 months.

Despite the refusal of the trade union organizations to renew the contract, the participating companies – explains Federdistribuzione – have therefore decided to give their workers an increase of 70 euros gross (reparameterised to level IV) starting from next April as an advance on future contractual increases, maintaining the hope that the trade union organizations can return to the negotiating table as soon as possible with the common objective of reaching the contractual renewal”.
