Simone Di Cagno Abbrescia, mayor of Bari from 1995 to 2004, and former deputy for two legislatures, from 2006 to 2013, has died at the age of 80. There have been many messages of condolence, such as that of Forza Italia Bari which “expresses deep and sincere condolences today for the passing of Simeone Di Cagno Abbrescia and affectionately embraces his family. An entrepreneur in the real estate and tourism sector, he joined the Forza Italia party since its foundation and, as mayor of Bari, was the first real defense against organized crime in the city and advocate of the rebirth of old Bari”. Forza Italia recalls above all that thanks to “his extraordinary human qualities and the results achieved as an entrepreneur and in the many important public positions he held, he will leave an indelible mark in everyone’s memory, especially in the hearts of the people of Bari”.

Decaro’s words

Mayor Antonio Decaro also expresses his opinion on the disappearance of the former mayor. “He will be remembered for the start of many urban transformations that changed Bari. Above all, I think of the Pane e pomodoro beach and the Urban plan, which for the first time restored attention and beauty to our old city. Even though we were long time on different political positions, I have always appreciated the institutional style, the elegance and that sincere love for Bari that united us beyond any affiliation”.
