GAVIA PASS. He was walking with his (faithful) camera around his neck to reach the Gavia Passwhen he came across a ‘scene’ that he will hardly forget. Denis Bonfadini is still in disbelief about what happened in February 2024, when on a windy morning (and under a copious snowfall), found himself faced with a wolf: “I still remember the feeling of happiness but above all of vulnerability that I tried”, he stated, interviewed by The Dolomites.

It all happened during an excursion at high altitude, towards the Gavia Pass: “It was snowing and I proceeded uphill along the path. At the height of a curve, I have turned and in front of me I found a wolfsuddenly appeared at one ten meters away – he lets it be known -. I stayed motionless so as not to scare him and to see what he intended to do.”

“After looking at me, he approached, stopping a few steps away from me and sitting down: here we are look at yourself for a few minutes. He turned his head like a puppy to scrutinize me and me I couldn’t help but enjoy the extraordinary moment: I ‘listened’ to his footsteps in the snow and looked into his yellow eyes“.

Then, the specimen walked away, calmly, for a hundred meters, “and then sat down again to look at me: we are We stood facing each other and observed each other for almost an hour. Time during which I took the opportunity to do some photo (COVER COVER and BELOW), sure not to disturb him, since I have it silent shooting“, underlines Bonfadini.

Finally, the specimen is gone, leaving behind the memory of an experience that the photographer will hardly forget: “It was incredible – he comments -. Seeing it so close has me conveyed some of his freedom but at the same time made me feel somewhat diminished. If each of us has a ‘role’ in society, it is possible to find that role in the midst of natureauthenticity has been lostwhich ultimately also makes us a little vulnerable“.

And he concludes: “It is an experience that I would wish anyone to have, even if with dues precautions: in the presence of a wild animal it is always good keep your distanceto stay calm down and above all to be respectful“.
