off-road motorcycle. 21-year-old Filippo Barletta died, his friend was injured. Cars collide to take the photo

Forty-seven deaths since January, many of them on motorbikes and scooters. Like Filippo Barletta, 21 years old, resident of Primavalle, who died yesterday at four in the morning in via di Boccea, near the intersection with via di Torrevecchia, while he and a friend were riding a Zontas scooter. The young man had no escape, the traffic police are investigating to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and clarify which of the two was driving. The other boy was practically unharmed: shocked by what he had seen, the young man was taken to hospital for checks and then, as per practice, subjected to an alcohol test and a drug test. It remains to be seen whether at the time of the accident there were also other vehicles close to the scooter, which suddenly left the road and ended up against the pavement.

Driver distracted by cell phone

Shortly after the intervention of the municipal police patrols, an ambulance and an Ares 118 medical vehicle, some of the passers-by started filming and taking photos of the accident scene with their smartphone. Acts of profiteering following a tragedy, which at a certain point also caused a second accident: a motorist with his cell phone in his hand apparently did not notice another car in front of him and rear-ended it. No consequences for anyone on board. The Municipal Police heard from the other boy riding the Zontas as well as some people who apparently witnessed the accident. In the next few hours, videos from the cameras located along via di Boccea and via di Torrevecchia could be acquired in order to have an idea of what happened.

Information in the Public Prosecutor’s Office

The scooter itself, which suffered serious damage in the impact, was seized and will soon be examined in the hypothesis that the loss of control by the person driving it may have been caused by a sudden mechanical failure. While awaiting the results of the autopsy, scheduled for the next few days at the forensic medicine institute of the Gemelli Polyclinic, the traffic police are preparing a report on the accident to be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office. It cannot be ruled out that the excessive speed of the scooter could also be among the causes of the fall of the two boys, as well as a risky maneuver by the drivers of other vehicles who then moved away. But there is currently no confirmation on this point.
