For this reason, yesterday the man was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. But now his ex-wife, suffering from years of suffering, has died following an illness and the couple’s two children now live with her father. The matter, closed yesterday by the Macerata court, dates back ten years ago and occurred in a small town in the province. The man, now 52 years old, mistreated his wife in every way: slaps and punches, insults of all kinds, death threats.
The woman was forced to live in a state of continuous prostration, in fear that, under any pretext, he would attack her. After having suffered this violence for years, at a certain point she had decided to leave that house and with her children she had returned to her parents, outside the Marche. However, not even this was enough to appease the man, so much so that she had to make further complaints to try to stop him and find some peace. After hearing several witnesses, the trial for the 52-year-old ended yesterday morning.
The public prosecutor Stefano Lanari asked for the accused to be sentenced, and the judge Roberto Evangelisti agreed with the reconstruction of the accusation and imposed a sentence of two and a half years in prison on the man, with 5 thousand euros in compensation for his two children. of women, civil parties. In fact, also due to the enormous suffering caused by this story, she fell ill years ago and unfortunately died before she could have at least a ruling on her complaints. For the children, the lawyer Paolo Carnevali was appointed guardian, who acted as a civil party for them with his colleague Claudia Romagnoli. Furthermore, in the meantime the children have returned to live with their father, in the country from which their mother had tried to escape. However, the first degree sentence is not definitive and now the man, defended by the lawyer Maria Cristina Ottavianoni, will be able to appeal to try to assert his version of events.
