CARRARA – Rifondazione Comunista is the one denouncing the fact that everything that has been told on TV has been happening for years, commenting on what happened through the Report as follows: «Really now there are no more alibis. Taking to the streets in a demonstration based on the images and words of the Report program leaves no more alibis. Seeing regional councilors and local administrators among the protesters immediately raises questions: does this policy really only take note today of the quarry model/system shown in Italian homes by the program Report? Was none of them aware of the environmental damage, the wealth produced by companies and not distributed, the deaths at work and the “master” conditions to which workers are subjected? Were the complaints made in recent decades by environmentalists, activists, local and international press falsehoods which today find confirmation in the shocking images of Report and in the arrogance of the words of a millionaire “boss”? When Giani, president of the Tuscany Region, declared that he wanted to transfer the rules of the quarries in the Carrara basin to the quarries inside the Apuane Park, we did not hear official responses from those administrators who were in the streets protesting: do they share those words or consider them , in light of the Report broadcast, an aberration? Today, however, the presence in that demonstration requires an immediate response and consequence: the facts. In order not to transform that presence into a ridiculous parade that would undermine their credibility as administrators and as coherent citizens, facts are needed, administrative acts are needed that re-establish the correct relationship between the world of the “owners” of the quarries, made up of false philanthropy and judicial appeals infinite, and the public administrators who have the institutional task of safeguarding the “public thing”, that is, safeguarding the environment, safeguarding the workers, safeguarding the community they represent, a community which is the only true owner of the mountains and the quarries. As Rifondazione Comunista Massa Carrara we appreciated the position taken by FHP, manager of the “Fiorillo” dock in the port of Marina di Carrara, a company that directly refers to Cassa Depositi e Prestiti: Alberto Franchi’s positions do not correspond to their corporate ethics and so no more business is done with him. If the ethics of the local administrations, of the Tuscany Region, of the Province of Massa Carrara, do not correspond with the ethics of Franchi and of a Confindustria which even in these days washes its hands Pilates-style, then it would be necessary to have a straight back, as has had FHP, and renounce any non-administrative relationship with that world. In this case, our support will not be lacking.”
