A few more kilometers and they would have arrived home. Unfortunately, RP, a seven and a half year old girl, will never return there again. The little girl is the only victim of the dramatic fatal accident which occurred on Via Pontina Vecchia, near the municipality of Ardea, southern province of Rome. A very strong crash at the intersection with Via della Pescarella just before 4pm which involved three cars and took the life of the little girl.
Three children injured
When help arrived for the little girl there was nothing left to do. Even carrying out resuscitation maneuvers for a long time, but unfortunately everything was in vain. In the car with her were her mother, taken by ambulance to the hospital in Pomezia, and her youngest brother, a five-year-old boy, who suffered several fractures. He is now being treated at the Bambino Gesù hospital in Rome. The two are not in danger of life.
Two other children traveling in another car and the driver of that car were also injured. A 118 helicopter landed on site to help him, with which the most seriously injured, a 50-year-old man, reached the San Camillo in Rome.
The dynamics of the fatal accident
The exact dynamics of the collision between the three cars which occurred at an intersection need to be clarified. From an initial reconstruction by the local police of Ardea who are investigating, it would seem that what caused the crash was the impact between the Lancia driven by the fifty-year-old, with two children on board and coming from Via della Pescarella, and a Mercedes 220 driven by a 75 year old man at high speed. The man, a Dutch citizen, was taken to Sant’Eugenio for checks.
One of the two apparently did not respect the stop sign. In the collision between the two cars there was the consequent crash with the car proceeding in the other lane, the Mercedes Class A with RP on board, in the back seat together with his little brother. In front, behind the wheel, was my mother. They were traveling along the road towards Aprilia to return home. There was nothing that could be done for the little girl.
Dangerous road
The drivers of the cars were subjected to ritual tests for alcohol and drug intake. The vehicles, and what remains of them, have been seized. Among the checks were also those to understand whether the little girl was regularly secured in a seat and seat belts. The file is in the hands of the Velletri prosecutor’s office.
On social media, in the meantime, there is anger at the dangerousness of the intersection where the tragedy occurred and where it seems that other accidents have been recorded in the past: “Nothing is being done to make that damned intersection safe” the residents attack . “What a tragedy – someone writes – they put a traffic light”.
