Last night, two trucks were set on fire in the industrial area of Rende, sparking a new wave of concern for safety in the city. Investigations are currently underway by the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Rende, while the local community is questioning the protection measures for businesses and workers.
The accident highlights the absence of an industrial plan and a real relaunch of the area, despite the over 140 companies present in the area. In the past, the idea of establishing a consortium of productive forces to promote the development of the industrial area, located in the Lecco district, had been put forward. However, the announced projects, such as the complete bituminisation and the resurfacing of road signs, remained incomplete.
Among the proposals discussed, the idea of distinguishing the different zones of the area with different colors to facilitate the identification of companies by citizens was particularly appreciated. However, this proposal did not receive any follow-up.
The industrial area of Rende, the beating heart of the economic activity of Cosenza, Rende and Castrolibero, represents an important concentration of companies, even if it has not yet been officially recognized as an industrial district by Istat.
