The news was given last May 23rd and, today, the confirmation of when it will happen: Carlo Acutis will be proclaimed a saint during the Jubilee, on a date yet to be defined.
Pope Francis decided this morning, at 9:00 a.m., in the Consistory Hall of the Vatican Apostolic Palace, presiding over the Ordinary Public Consistory for the Canonization of the Blessed. The Catholic Church will propose to the veneration of all the faithful of the world the example of life of 15 new saints: 14 of them will be proclaimed on October 20th and one, the “patron saint of the web”, the young Carlo Acutis on a date yet to be chosen in the year ahead.
The young layman, now known as the “Saint of the web”, was a young Milanese student who died at the age of 15 in 2006. Acutis was declared venerable on 5 July 2018 by Pope Francis and on 21 February 2020 Francis himself a miracle attributed to him was recognized. The beatification ceremony took place in Assisi on 10 October 2020 and was presided over by Cardinal Agostino Vallini representing the Pope.
Carlo had a very deep-rooted faith, even despite the suffering caused by the illness that quickly led to his death. He often repeated: ”The Eucharist is my highway to heaven”.
In the case of Carlo Acutis, the recovery of Matheus, a six-year-old Brazilian boy suffering from annular pancreas, a rare congenital anomaly of the pancreas, highlighted by a clinical examination in 2012, which could only have been corrected with surgery, was considered miraculous .
On October 20, Giuseppe Allamano, founder of the Consolata Missions, the Canadian nun Marie-Leonie Paradis, the nun Elena Guerra from Lucca, as well as the 11 “martyrs of Damascus”, Emanuele Ruiz and seven companions of the Order of Friars Minor, and Francis, Abdel Mooti and Raffaele Massabki will be canonized.
