An unauthorized party was organized on Female Island. 200 landed on the Palermo island which is a protected marine reserve area. The event was stopped by the coast guard and the financial police, explains Lipu (Italian bird protection league). The military arrived with patrol boats and identified everyone. A dozen patrols including carabinieri, financiers and police were called in to identify the party participants.
The party
The party started in a club on the coast and then moved to the islet which is privately owned but also a reserve and protected marine area. With the boats they reached the 15 hectares of rock where it stands out with a partially destroyed tower. An exclusive place for an equally exclusive party attended by people from the Palermo bourgeoisie, entrepreneurs and well-known professionals.
Nature reserve managed by Lipu
“From 1998 to yesterday, no one had thought of storming the natural reserve islet. A truly very serious thing. Also because in this period, given that there are species that nest on the island and from March 1st to June 30th, visits are suspended as is written on the island where the regulations are posted in several places” says Vincenzo Di Dio, director of the reserve managed by Lipu. “I made an inspection of the island. A real mess – adds Di Dio – Lots of cigarette butts, glass bottles, plastic bottles and lots of glasses. They piled up wood and wanted to make a bonfire. They tell me that they are well-known entrepreneurs and professionals. A real disaster. The reserve is accessible, but through the paths and trails. Many people come to the islet and leave this reserve area better than they found it, certainly not in this way”.
