Horizon Forbidden West it doesn’t seem to have had the commercial success hoped for, Guerrilla Games’ latest game has struggled on the market and to date it seems that after twelve months it has sold less than five million copies on PS4 and PS5.
The data emerges by checking the list of the best-selling Sony games on PlayStation and the best-selling Sony PlayStation exclusive series of all time. In the first case (single games and not entire franchises) we find Death Stranding in last place five million copies sold from Death Stranding on PS4 and Death Stranding Director’s Cut on PS5, while the PC version is not included in the count.
This means that Horizon Forbidden West has sold less than five million copies on PS4 and PS5 from February 2022 to 31 December 2022. It should be noted that Horizon Zero Dawn is present in the rankings in a rather high position, with over 20 million copies sold. On the other hand, the Horizon series is not among the best-selling Sony series, last place goes to Ratchet & Clank with 27.1 million copies, the lack of success of Forbidden West has not helped the Guerrilla franchise to exceed (at least) this figure.
So the perception is that Horizon Forbidden West sold less than expectedalso understandable from the fact that Sony has never published any release related to the sales of the game, unlike what happened to celebrate the 11 million copies sold of God of War Ragnarok.
At launch, Horizon Forbidden West collided with the huge success of Elden Ring, a game that has become a pop phenomenon on everyone’s lips in just a few days, a success with 17 million copies sold in a matter of months. The low availability of PS5 may have also had an impact, with players perhaps preferring not to buy the game on PS4 to enjoy it in the splendor of the next-gen.
It is true that now the PS5 are quite easily found but the sales of Horizon Forbidden West do not seem to increase, indeed obscured by those of God of War Ragnarok which continues to sell very well in all major markets.
