Pisa, 28 June 2024 – He died yesterday at the age of 37 due to a sudden illness Daniel Bristot De Oliveiraformer student of the Sant’Anna High School and affiliate of the Retis laboratory of the TeCip Institute (Communication, Information, Photonics Technologies) of Sant’Anna itself. Daniel’s unexpected passing has left the entire scientific community of the Institute dismayed, who have joined in the family’s condolences by expressing emotion and affection for “a ‘beautiful mind’ who leaves us too soon and who will be missed”.

Those who shared many moments in the laboratory with Daniel remember him as “a positive and smiling person, full of joy and always ready to support others. He was a very talented computer scientist, with in-depth knowledge of the Linux kernel and a great worker” . Born in Brazil, Daniel Bristot Oliveira had perfected his education in Pisaobtaining a joint PhD from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil) in 2020. He then remained in our city and currently holds a position of responsibility in the multinational IT company RedHat.

Before joining RedHat, he worked as a Senior Software Engineer at the Brazilian company Intelbras, which manufactures, develops and sells electronic equipment. The former doctoral student of the Sant’Anna School has made his contribution to the world of research by collaborating on the Linux kernel, the main component of the Linux operating system.

He was also among the organizers of numerous scientific events and a member of the technical program committee for several important conferences in the computer science field, including Rtss, Rtas and Ecrts. Over the years he has taken part in the technical program committee for several conferences, such as IEEE Transactions on Computers, and has published several articles and contributions to scientific journals. For his merits and the work done, Daniel was a respected member within the scientific community that remains incredulous in front of his premature passing.
