VALLELAGHI. After the silhouettes of wild animals positioned on the roadside, a new, innovative system is arriving in the municipal area to prevent collisions between passing vehicles and mammals such as deer, roe deer or others.

The plant will be located on the SS45 bis road, near the Al Vecchio Mulino restaurant, where there is a “busy” wildlife corridor.

This is a dynamic road sign system activated by sensors and thermal cameras.

A cutting-edge technological system, also arriving in other areas of Trentino (Cavalese, for example), which when in operation should induce motorists traveling along the stretch of road to reduce their speed and therefore avoid collisions, which are harmful both for those driving (who has to deal with expensive damages, which for some years have no longer been covered by provincial insurance) or for animals that risk their lives. The system uses a thermal camera which, through video analysis, perceives the presence of the animal on the road and in its vicinity, up to about 400 meters away.

If the camera records an animal, the software raises the alarm and, through a control unit, activates the light sensors present on the road at a distance of 50 meters from each other, on both sides of the roadway. This way the driver knows that he has to be more careful, because that animal could cross suddenly.

The goodness of this system also lies in the fact that it does not interfere in any way on the animal, it does not disturb him, but only serves as an alarm for the driver. The municipal council of Vallelaghi has entrusted the company Quad automazioni srl. the installation of the system, which will soon come into operation.
