Embracer Group continues with its profound internal reorganization carried out for several months and which has seen the mass dismissal of countless employees as well as the closure of some studios. Another name is added to this sad list, that of Pieces Interactive.
Through a meager statement on its official website, the company announces its closure after 17 years of honorable service: it was in fact 2007 when Pieces Interactive became a reality by working on dozens of games for PC, console and mobile systems as well as collaborating with various entities such as Koei Tecmo, Paradox Interactive, Koch Media and Arrowhead Game Studios. In 2017 the company was then purchased by Embracer Group after working on the expansions of Titan Quest.
Pieces Interactive’s latest game was Alone in the Darka modern reinterpretation of Survival Horror’s classic of the same name, published last March on PC, PlayStation 5 And Xbox Series without achieving particular critical and public success: sales of Alone in the Dark did not reach Embracer Group’s expectations and at this point it is reasonable to think that its commercial flop is the main reason behind the end of the studio.
The end of Pieces Interactive is unfortunately another piece in what seems like a real bulletin: in 2024 there have already been more layoffs than in the whole of 2023, and the situation does not seem destined to improve soon.
