Creative director Matt Searcy and brand director Nicole Fawcette spoke with journalist Jez Corden about Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer, modes and differences compared to the other episodes of the series.

Will there be an online section in the prequel? A question that anyone would take for granted, even if nowadays one can never tell. “What I can say is that Gears of War: E-Day will be the next major chapter in the series, which has a pretty clear DNA when it comes to game modes. That certainly allows you to predict what you’ll find in this experience,” he said. Searcy explained.

“There are many things we can do. Story-wise we have a gap of fourteen years between E-Day and the first Gears of War. Even Gears Tactics was set during the opening years of the war, while the world you will see in E-Day has not yet been destroyed and there are people who live in peace, but who witness the arrival of the Locusts for the first time and do not know what is happening.”

We will also change things in terms of gameplay: We’ve been working on the series for ten years, so we already have experience revisiting enemy types and adding new weapons. Maybe we’ll even add new opponents, we’ll do everything we can.”

An evolution of Gears of War

In the special with everything we know about Gears of War: E-Day there is a part in which the brand director Nicole Fawcette talks about the Lancer and how this weapon did not yet exist at the time of the prequel.

“E-Day is an origin story of many things, including the Lancer with the chainsaw which you know well,” Fawcette said. “We will discover that it was built after these events, as there were no weapons capable of piercing the Locust’s thick skin. We’ll tell the story of how the Lancer came to be, and yes, you’ll even be able to use it.”

“I think we have a good vision of what makes Gears greatbut that doesn’t mean we’re going back to a simpler, more stripped-down version of the series,” the game director explained. “There are some things we tried that didn’t work well, and others that turned out to be very effective.”

“We know there’s this underlying idea of a fight ‘against all odds’ that permeates the franchise, but there’s also room to experiment and we’ll have an entire city to do that. Gears of War: E-Day will be a fantastic Gears episodejust like what fans imagine, but at the same time it will offer a new experience.”

AND we will also see the very powerful General Raam again? The question posed by Jez Corden did not receive a clear answer, but the exchange of smiles between Searcy and Fawcette, who said they could not answer questions related to the plot at this time, certainly stands as an interesting clue.
