There are many problems that the ChatGPT virtual assistant is experiencing and many of these have been reported all over the world
In an age where technology and artificial intelligence (AI) play an increasingly central role in our lives, becomes especially problematic when one of the most popular AI services encounters technical difficulties. This is the case of ChatGPT, the virtual assistant developed by OpenAI, which in the last few hours has shown signs of malfunction on a global scale.
The morning brought with it a series of inconveniences for ChatGPT users, with outages affecting both the web version and the mobile and Mac apps. The first signs of problems were detected around 8:30 a.m. Central Europe. OpenAI did not take long to confirm the difficulties through its status pageadmitting that “ChatGPT is unavailable to some users” and announcing ongoing investigations to resolve the issue.
ChatGPT: The scope of the problem is global
Despite the still uncertain nature of the causes behind the outage, data collected by Downdetector indicates a significant spike in malfunction reports. There were around 2,300 reports in the US at the height of the outagewhile in the United Kingdom there were around 1,000. These figures suggest that a large portion of the user base is experiencing barriers to using the service.
Using ChatGPT through the web browser and iOS mobile app proved particularly problematic during the outage. iOS users have been faced with error messages such as “internal server error”, making any form of interaction with the AI assistant impossible. This event raises questions about the reliability of AI-based services and their ability to manage large volumes of users without encountering significant disruptions. Furthermore, it highlights how deeply services like ChatGTP have entered people’s everyday livesbecoming almost indispensable tools for work, study or simple personal curiosity.
As of this writing, OpenAI is working hard to resolve the technical issues faced by ChatGPT. It is not yet clear how long it will take for the service to be fully operational again and what measures will be taken to prevent future disruptions. Now though, as users patiently wait for their favorite AI assistant to return to normal, this episode must serve as a warning. In fact, emerging technologies are very useful but still require continuous infrastructural improvement and systematic efficiency improvement. This is because the increase in global demand is constant and we cannot be caught unprepared.
