NVIDIA G-Assist is the new AI-based assistant that could revolutionize gaming

After showing off the potential of the new NVIDIA RTX AI Toolkit and the latest evolutions of NVIDIA ACE, the green house presented Project G-Assist, an in-game virtual assistant based on artificial intelligence that could revolutionize the way we use video games.
The NVIDIA project consists of a set of tools that result in the creation of a chatbot with which players can interface to request the most diverse information relating to the game, without going through external browsers or search engines. Here are all the details on NVIDIA G-Assist.

An in-game butler

The most attentive will remember that seven years ago, NVIDIA used the name G-Assist to stage one of the most successful “April Fools’ jokes” in history, promising the arrival of an assistant capable of automating gameplay and essentially cheat without the player’s direct intervention.

The new project presented at Computex 2024 instead has another purpose, much more useful and potentially capable of revolutionizing our approach to video games. NVIDIA G-Assist is a set of artificial intelligence tools and models that are intended to improve the “assistance” ecosystem within video games and applications.

How NVIDIA G-Assist works

Project G-Assist is able to receive some input from the player, such as a voice or text request, accompanied by the game context or even telemetry from the application itself. All this is directed to an artificial intelligence model that transforms the context into a linguistic model, enriched by the database of information provided by the developers. These models can run in the cloud or directly on the device.

NVIDIA showcased a tech demo with two practical examples: a game assistant that helps the player with a real-time guide and a system assistant that automatically optimizes and sets up your PC to obtain maximum performance.

NVIDIA partnered with Studio Wildcard to demonstrate the power of G-Assist on Ark Survival Ascended. Thanks to the new green house feature, information that currently needs to be searched online can be requested directly from the in-game assistant: “What is the best weapon to start the game?”, “Where can I find the materials for its manufacturing?”, “How do I level up?”, G-Assist can answer this and much more.
The NVIDIA assistant is even able to recognize the action on the screen and provide contextual information: in this specific case the player requested specific information on the dinosaurs present in the game session.

As we mentioned later, the green house feature can automatically set the best gaming and hardware settings to provide the desired performance.
In short, NVIDIA G-Assist could really change the relationship with our favorite medium. At the moment, however, what NVIDIA offers is only a possible taste of the future: G-Assist is still in the planning phase and we will have to wait a little longer to be able to try it first-hand.
