Sennheiser HD 602S: they are closed, but they want to sound ‘open’

German brand Sennheiser has unveiled the latest addition to its acclaimed HD 600 series, aiming to offer audiophiles a compelling take on closed-back headphones for listening in those situations where open-back headphones aren’t suitable. Closed headphones on one side isolate from the outside world and allow listening in contexts that are not perfectly silent, on the other they do not allow sound to escape, therefore not disturbing those around us.

The hi-fi community has been clamoring for a pair of headphones that encompasses the best features of our 600 Series, but at the same time isolates you from distractions at work, home or while commuting. said Jermo Koehnke, Audiophile Product Manager at Sennheiser. Not only do the HD 620S deliver on this promise, but their immersive sound performance and brilliant response to even the fastest transients make them suitable for an exceptional listening experience for any situation.

At the heart of the HD 620S is a 42mm dynamic driver customized and featuring an ultra-lightweight 150 Ohm aluminum voice coil. As usual at Sennheiser, the speaker is inclined so as to be more in line with the ear and offer a more natural listening experience.

Despite being closed headphones, the new Sennheiser HD 620S want replicate the ‘airy’ listening experience of the open sisters. In particular, the angled deflector is very ‘open’ to recreate the listening experience, thanks to the possibility of movement left to the air, despite working inside closed pavilions.

Thanks to a high damping factor, the 150 Ohm aluminum voice coil aims to excel in fast transients for punchy dynamics across the entire frequency spectrum, while being able to count on half the weight compared to its copper equivalent. A. also contributes to the acoustic performance minimal acoustic damping: thanks to the absence of cushioning around the transducer and an acoustically transparent dust cover.
