Descriptive text here

The life of one mom she changed when her son, at the age of 12, told her: “Mom, I’m a girl.” Since then, the woman followed her daughter step by step in the transition process, until she wanted to open an association, named Affects beyond genderthrough which she has become the megaphone for all those who, like her daughter at an evolutionary age, do not recognize themselves in their own bodies and understand that their identity is different from their birth sex.

«Without the drugs that block puberty my daughter would have killed herself – her mother told Vd News -. As long as they are children they all feel the same, but when she started to see the hair caused by puberty she was terrified. She couldn’t take it anymore, she didn’t want to live anymore.”

Coming out

Now her daughter is 17 years old: in 2018 she decided to explain how she felt to her parents. «At the time I didn’t even know what it meant transgenderso I started doing some research – said the mother -.

For me it was a liberation, I had no idea how to save her. It had gotten to a point where she couldn’t even look at herself in the mirror. She locked herself in the bathroom and turned off the light. I told her to turn on the light, but she replied: You can’t understand me. And I actually didn’t understand it.”

But the mother had expected that declaration, not only because her husband, in whom the minor had confided in her the day before coming out, had warned her, but also because since she was little she had always shown that she did not feel like a boy. At 3 years old she preferred Barbies and at 6, to go to first grade, she asked her parents for a pink backpack with glitter. The girl also has a twin brother, who has never judged her and, as a child, she accepted the situation.

«For me it was a liberation because I thought she was sick and that I wouldn’t be able to save her – concluded the mother -. She also marked a turning point in my life, it was like freeing myself from stereotypes, prejudices and paranoia, and today I think that if I had known at 20 what I know now, I would have lived better. Thanks to her, my way of seeing the world has changed.”
