PS5 Pro, new hypotheses on GPUs, games and much more

Sony has not yet decided to reveal its to the world PS5 Proa console that should (apparently) be launched by the end of 2024.

If the basic console is easy to buy (you can find it at a discount on Amazon), there are many who want the variant with higher performance.

PS5 Pro specs leaked last March, revealing what we can expect from the new mid-gen console.

Now, however, as also reported by Wccfetchthe boys of Digital Foundry they once again took stock of PS5 Pro and what we can expect on the hardware side.

The technical experts of DF they have in fact recently discussed the specifications of the next Sony platform, examining what PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution and Ultra Boost Mode they could bring to the table and which games could benefit most from it.

Among the titles that should benefit most from this technology are those that aggressively use AMD FSR 2, such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor And Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, beyond Final Fantasy VII Rebirth And Final Fantasy XVIwhich definitely appear blurry in Performance Mode.

Next, we find Immortals of Aveum and every game that has an explicit VRR mode, like most of Sony’s first-party titles like God of War Ragnarok, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 And Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Also The Last of Us: Part I And The Last of Us Part II Remastered would be part of the games that will benefit from it, while those that do not use dynamic resolution scaling and already run at solid 30/60 fps they will not see any improvements from PSSR and Ultra Boost Mode (and will likely require a PS5 Pro patch to take advantage of the increased specs).

But not only that: Digital Foundry believes it is likely that the nominal 45% increase in GPU performance compared to the base model could potentially be sufficient to address all the problems encountered in GPU-limited scenarios, which consequently lead to aggressive use of dynamic resolution scaling.

It therefore seems very likely that the mid-gen console will provide a better experience on all fronts, necessary to push current generation games forward both in terms of visual quality and performance.

Moreover, sources close to Sony have revealed that developers would have been asked to ensure that their games are compatible with the next PS5 Pro.

It is also true that some developers at the recent GDC 2024 did not say they were optimistic about the PS5 Pro.

In addition to the fact that another survey from a few months ago had already indicated that players were seriously torn about a possible release of a PS5 Pro.
