The Rogue Prince of Persia will initially be released in early access because the developers of Evil Empire consider it a great way to improve games, as also happened to a heavyweight like Baldur’s Gate 3.

The explanation of the choice made came in a video for the community, which was perplexed by the timing and the choice of genre, considering that it will arrive a few months after another Prince of Persia 2D: The Lost Crown, released in January.

The Rogue Prince of Persia explained

Is there room for another 2D Prince of Persia?

Evil Empire explained that he wanted to create a completely his own project, after the end of support for Dead Cells. Of course, Ubisoft is involved, also because it holds the intellectual property, but the game will bear the studio’s signature, unlike Dead Cells which is from Motion Twins.

The idea for The Rogue Prince of Persia was born six years ago, during a dinner where some Ubisoft representatives were also present. There was talk of using the experience gained with Dead Cells to create a 2D platformer of Prince of Persia. In the following weeks, Evil Empire formally submitted the project to Ubisoft, which was accepted.

The development team of The Rogue Prince of Persia is made up of 15-20 people who have been working on the game for about three years. In the video it is said that it is not a copy of Dead Cells or a clone, although obviously part of the experience gained on that game has been exploited. In any case, it will first and foremost be a Prince of Persia, therefore with aspects linked to the series Jordan Mechner.

Why the choice to release it first in Early Access? Simple, because the studio wants it to evolve in a certain way and knows well how the system works: “We saw how early access helped in the development process of Dead Cells and, of course, other great indie games like Hades, Subnautica and Slay the Spire. Baldur’s Gate 3 also became so good thanks to early access.”
