Iliad is finally taking the final steps to enable VoLTE technology on its consumer plans throughout Italy. After the first tests on business SIMs, the low-cost operator recently published the official support page dedicated to VoLTE for retail customers, confirming the imminent arrival of this long-awaited feature.

VoLTE (Voice over LTE) allows you to make voice calls using the 4G or 5G network instead of the traditional 2G/3G. The main advantages, as listed by Iliad, are one improved audio quality, faster connection times and the ability to navigate at the same time as calls without slowdowns.

The introduction of VoLTE for Iliad customers has been in the air for some time, with numerous reports of users who have started to see the VoLTE icon activate on their Android smartphones in recent weeks, a sign of some preliminary tests carried out by the operator . Now, with the publication of the dedicated support page, it seems that Iliad’s VoLTE is ready for its official debut for all consumer users, after having previously been enabled for a selection of business plans.

Activation should occur completely automatically and transparently for most Android smartphones, with the icon that will appear as soon as the service is actually available on each customer’s SIM. An exception is some Redmi and POCO models for which a quick manual procedure may be necessary. For iPhone users instead, Iliad suggests manually enable the VoLTE option from iOS settingsonce the service is actually active on your SIM.

In addition to technical details, the official support page also includes a series of useful FAQs to clarify some aspects of Iliad’s VoLTE, such as the necessary requirements, activation methods and confirmation of the absence of additional costs for the service.

With this additional piece, Iliad is finally aligning itself with the other main Italian operators who have already implemented VoLTE for some time. An important news for the low-cost operator’s customers, who will thus be able to benefit from new generation voice calls without extra costs even if we admit the news arrived decidedly late.
