Maserati MCXtrema, this is the name of the new racing car ready to warm the hearts of Trident enthusiasts. The new custom-built model from the Modena manufacturer is ready to take to the track to unleash its exuberance, for an in-depth series of tests that will last until the end of April, to best prepare for the first delivery which will take place later this summer. The new Italian supercar is approved for exclusive use on the track and just 62 examples will be produced.

Maserati MCXtrema: what it is

There Maserati MCXtrema it is a car conceived without compromises, created to break the mold and create new paradigms. Maximum expression of Maserati DNA and extraordinary performances which distinguish the entire production of the 100% Italian brand, MCXtrema showed off its explosive desire to race between the curbs, going through a series of fundamental tests to determine and write the data necessary for the final mass. The exclusive creation of the Trident is one of the brand’s most daring cars in terms of development. It is the maximum evolution of the super bad Maserati MC20, from which it takes inspiration and from which it takes shape.

On the track in Varano de’ Melegari

The first official release was organized in February, at the Varano de’ Melegari racetrack (Parma)where the MCXtrema was driven by Andrea Bertolini, Maserati chief test driver and among the most successful drivers in the GT categories with four world titles aboard the glorious MC12 (of which the MCXtrema is a theoretical heir), who followed its development from the first stages to the dynamic simulator. The February test and the following events to refine performance were the ideal setting for unleashing the full power of the engine 740 hp (540 kW) 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 derived from the Maserati Nettuno engine, taken to a higher level.

Maserati technology

The new Maserati MCXtrema has benefited from the most modern and advanced equipment available to the company: a fundamental contribution comes from the Virtual Analysiswith dynamic simulator technology, and by the team of Powertrain Calibration, responsible for managing the power developed by the Nettuno engine. The experience acquired in the development of the Maserati MC20, the in-depth study of each component and the hard tests of the engine on the bench, have guaranteed maximum accuracy in the simulation, allowing us to reach the test phase on the track with an extremely significant car, with correlated with what was validated on the simulator, therefore only fine tuning on the real track is necessary.

Virtual work on Maserati MCXtrema, approximately 200 hours of driving on the Maserati dynamic simulator and 1000 hours of virtual analysis for various types of simulations, and comparison with feedback on the track, combined with the previous four years of development dedicated to MC20 and the subsequent checks on the reliability of the upgraded engine , have guaranteed to give life to a car that is the best result of advanced engineering and innovation, where the design has been shaped by the Maserati Style Center to have efficient aerodynamics in every track configuration.

Andrea Bertolini, Maserati Chief Test Driverhe said: “Taking to the track with a new car always gives a special, unique sensation, just like MCXtrema. A wonderful creature born to devour the asphalt and dance between the curves, a true jewel of mechanics and aerodynamics, perfect for balance and handling. For months we worked together with a team of highly qualified and passionate people, waiting for the moment when we would bring the finished machine into its natural habitat, after putting it to the test in the virtual world thanks to sophisticated simulations. What makes this car great is the excellent teamwork, resulting in a sports car of the future. With MCXtrema we have further raised the bar of development, working with a track perspective and always taking into account the needs of the Maserati customer, who remains at the center of our work and to whom this car is dedicated.”
