Brignone, Olympic trials: back to skiing in the gates of Courmayeur

Federica Brignone resumed her giant slalom training in Courmayeur between Christmas and the 27th, giving rise to hope, but there is still no certainty about when and how she will return to the World Cup, which is necessary before the Olympics.

Finally seeing it in action between the wide doors one might think that Federica Brignone is ready to return to the races. Instead, those comforting images do not yet imply a certain date and place to see her again in the World Cup, a necessary preamble so that he does not go to the 2026 Games just to carry the flag.

The happy news is therefore incomplete because the closing of the circle is still missing: when and where he will be able to compete again. On this front it is necessary to follow the concept offorward step by step that filters through his entourage. The return, excluding the «all in» on Cortinamust take place by January.

Leaving aside the gigante di Kranjska Gora (January 3, date too close), these options remain: Crowns Plan (20) e Spindleruv Mlyn (24) thinking about wide doors; Tarvisio (17 and 18) e Crans Montana (30 and 31) if the champion wants to try it too downhill and super-G. For these two disciplines then there would be Zauchensee (10 and 11), but these are also premature deadlines.

In the end: Federica plans to compete only in giant slalom or also in speed? It is the second knot to untie. Moreover it’s a positive thing to have seen her again dancing between the doors, in “her” Courmayeur. He did it at Christmasha repeated yesterday.

Visibility was not excellent, the snow seemed to be soft. It was therefore suitable for his situation, which must be linked to his recovery from the disastrous accident of last April 4th at the Assoluti, when he fractured the tibial plateau and the fibula head of his left leg. At the end of the test some pain appeared, but it was manageable. So from here on out the Italian will be able to add new difficulties: the San Pellegrino Pass could be the location for the next training sessions.

Meanwhile in Livigno the World Cup closed 2025 of men with a super-G which marked the debut of the location in the White Circus. On a track that was perhaps too short, the race was fun and with small gaps. There were parts more suited to gigantists than sprinters and it is no coincidence that the Austrian Marco Schwarz won. Dominik Paris, best Italian, finished fifth jointly with the German Jocher. The women, however, were engaged in the Semmering giantwon by the Austrian Scheib over the Swiss Rast and the Swedish Hector. Lara Colturi went out in the second heat, while Italy notes the seventh place for Lara Della Mea (career best result) and the encouraging eighth by Sofia Goggia.
