The Under 20 World Cup has officially kicked off with the first two matches. France-Spain and England-Argentina opened the youth competition in South Africa.

It was all easy for the reigning champions France who overwhelmed Spain 49-12 in the Pool A match at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town. A bit of a scare for England who won 40-21 against Argentina but suffered the South Americans in the first half hour of the match.

Under 20 World Cup: France-Spain 49-12

The transalpines scored three tries in the first half hour of the match with Axel Disperse-Rigou and a brace from Barnabe Massa. At the end of the first half, the French also scored their fourth, a penalty try that sent the teams to the break with a 28-0 lead.

In the second half, Spain closed the gap with hooker Diego Gonzalez Blanco, but the Galletti’s excessive power led to Fabien Brau-Boirie scoring a goal in the 61st minute and then Geoffrey Malaterre, who scored a brace in the 76th and 78th minute. At the end the Iberians scored for the second time with Julien Burguillos, sweetening the final score.

Worth mentioning is the perfect performance from the penalty spot by Hugo Reus, who scored 12 points.

Under 20 World Cup: England-Argentina 40-21

In the match at the Athlone Sports Stadium in Cape Town, valid for Pool C, England beat Argentina of the same age not without difficulty. In the 80th minute the result was 40-21 for the British who, however, had started the match two tries down.

In 10 minutes, between the 20th and 30th, Genaro Podesta and Juan Penoucos scared the English with two goals that brought the Pumitas to a partial 14-0. In the final 5 minutes of the first half Jack Bracken (author of a splendid try) and Ben Redshaw straightened the result to 14 all at the interval.

The second half opened with a completely different script. Prop Billy Sela and third row Henry Pollock put the Rosa national team ahead 26-14, before the third South American try with Efrain Elias.

In the 66th and 68th minutes, winger Jack Bracken scored the final two tries with which England closed the match 40-21.
