What’s OK and what’s not OK(R): Rosetti takes stock. The former referee Italian footballer and referee manager, current president of the Commission Referees of UEFA, analyzed all the critical episodes regarding the possible errors of the match officials involved so far in Euro 2024. After the first 36 matches, Rosetti has already decided which referees will continue to the final stages of the tournament and who, instead, will go home. The cases of slow motion and the explanations, provided by the UEFA designator, on the most burning refereeing cases of the first phase of the European Championship.
Euro 2024, Rosetti: first cuts from the referees’ list
Danny Makkelie he was excluded from the list of referees for the European Championships by UEFA, led by Roberto Rosetti, and returned to Rotterdam. Rosetti stressed that these situations were not clear enough for a VAR intervention, but were still questionable.

The yellow given to Donnarumma – in the 15th minute of the match against Spain – was analyzed regarding the importance of collaboration between referee and captain. Donnarumma (captain) he was booked for going out the door to speak to the referee while Jorginho, in charge of communicating with the match director, he was already asking for explanations. Rosetti raised the question of whether it makes sense to appoint a goalkeeper as captain under these rules.

The matches lasted slightly less than in 2021 (59’10” against 60’30”). The number of fouls remained unchanged compared to three years ago (808 fouls, 22.4 per game). They were given many more yellow cards (166, almost 5 per game, compared to 98 in 2021). There was one more red card compared to the last edition (3 against 2). In total, there were 20 VAR interventions for corrections in 36 games, with one intervention every 1.8 games, compared to one every 2.5 games in the last Italian championship.
