Coinciding with the European Football Championships, the words of Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner really surprised everyone.
The world of football and the world of tennis united in weeks that at the moment appear very hot. On the one hand, there is very little time left and the Wimbledon tournament will begin, a historic London tournament held on grass, while on the other the European football championships continue unabated in Germany, the direct elimination phase has officially begun.
We start immediately with the round of 16 and today Italy-Switzerland and Germany-Denmark will be played with great anticipation for the reigning champions – led by Luciano Spalletti – and for the hosts with Nagelsmann who wants to achieve at all costs a great goal and will immediately face a rather insidious team. It has been an atypical European Championship so far and there have been several big surprises.
The big names did not surprise, coming off a year with several matches and no specific national team appeared in great form. Italy, among others, is in great difficulty and only achieved qualification thanks to Zaccagni’s last-minute goal, which earned them a draw with Croatia. Tennis players also watch football and monitor everything that happens around their favorite team.
The ATP released a video where he asked all the tennis players the favorite for the title and many responded, Sinner’s words on the matter left everyone speechless.
Italy, Sinner does not believe in the final victory of the European Championship
All the main tennis players answered this question, Alcaraz answered bluntly Spain and Tsitsipas himself seemed convinced by the game expressed so far by the Red Furies. Someone (see the home idol Draper) believes in England while someone else speaks of the host Germany, even Sinner answered and – quite surprisingly – he said that Spain will win the European Championship.
Not a hope and we don’t even know if it’s superstition, but Jannik has made it clear that he sees Spain as quite the favourites, effectively ‘snubbing’ Luciano Spalletti’s Italy. The tennis player from San Candido is a great football fan and has repeatedly said he is a fan of the Italian national team (he has also made some social posts) but at the moment he doesn’t see the Italians among the favorites for the European Championship.
Whether this is superstition or not will be revealed in the future, but what is certain is that Jannik will be cheering for the Italian national team from this afternoon onwards.
