Freuler Apologizes to Italy After Press Conference: “I Didn’t Mean to Offend”

(ANSA) – ROME, JUNE 27 – “I would like to clarify a statement of mine that was misinterpreted and, in some cases, misreported. In the press conference I was asked what the Swiss national team learned from the 3-0 defeat in Rome against Italy in 2021. I replied that we learned a lot and then drew twice against Italy in the qualifiers, qualifying, unlike Italy, for the World Cup. I would like to underline that it was never my intention to provoke or make fun of the Italian national team”. Remo Freuler, a player for the Swiss team that will next face the Azzurri at the European Championships, wanted to clarify some of his statements that had sparked controversy on social media with a post on Instagram. “I have great respect for what Italy has done in the past – wrote the player, who wears the Bologna jersey -, for what they are doing and I love the country.

For me, my wife and my entire family, Italy has become a second home. Things, among other things, also said during the press conference, but which were given less prominence. I am very sorry that my statement was seen by many as a provocation or a joke. I hope for a good match in Berlin”. (ANSA).
