On Sunday afternoon it was The Telegraph with an article by Simon Briggs that dropped the bomb: “Murray will not participate in Wimbledon”. The news immediately went around the web with the English journalist writing that after the back operation to remove a cyst the player would not take the field at the English tournament. The Scotsman had been forced to retire in Queen’s round of 16 match (vs. Thompson) precisely because of a back problem. According to the Telegraph, however, the chances of seeing the player on the grass at Wimbledon were practically non-existent. A possibility that has created a lot of disappointment given that for Murray it could be one of the last chances to participate in a tournament to which he has always been linked.
The staff’s denial and the family’s accusations
The news of the non-participation of Murray at Wimbledon however, it was immediately denied. Her entourage immediately spoke to the BBC: “He had a small operation yesterday and we have to wait and see how it goes. The decision hasn’t been made yet but let’s hope for the best for Andy”.
And it was also the family who spoke up Andy’s mom, Judywho launched an attack on social media: “When your private medical details are leaked to the press by someone you trust it is really disappointing. And for your information it is not yet certain that there will not be”. Although participation remains complicated, it was Judy who did not rule it out completely.
