Interviewed by ASthe Spanish legend Iker Casillas talked about real Madrid and the upcoming ad challenge Euro2024 among his Spain el‘Italy of Luciano Spalletti, who beat in that unforgettable and historic final at Euro2012 which saw the Roja annihilate them Blues by Cesare Prandelli 4 to 0. These are his declarations.
“In the last century, Real Madrid was the club that had the hegemony of the old Champions League; in this century it is Real Madrid that continues to have the hegemony of the Champions League. The club is back to where it has always been, it is a reference, the best club in the world, thanks to the image it gives, to all the titles it obtains, despite the players who come and go. Real Madrid is the best team for the people who work there, for the DNA, for all of this which has been passed down over the years. I remember that twenty years ago people didn’t like the transfer, while now everyone wants to come and play for Real Madrid.”
Is Real Madrid a step ahead of other teams?
“No, not just one step, ten. Real Madrid is at the top of the building at the moment, the others are in the centre.”
How many merits does Ancelotti have?
“Many. I believe that Carlo is the architect of everything that has been achieved. He has good players but it is not easy to deal with all the injuries he has had this season. It should be remembered that Militao was practically the best central defender last year of Europe. He has had significant losses and has known very well how to manage each player. This is the case, for example, of Kroos or Modric, who are veterans who perhaps cannot express themselves at their best in two close matches.”
For Spain there is now Italy.
“Italy is one of those teams that run. A priori I see Spain as the favorites but Italy’s game, in the way they approach matches, is extraordinary. It will be a good match and we will be able to take a look at two teams that they want to reach at least the quarter-finals.”
