Gianmarco Tamberi made his return to the race after the amazing night at the Olimpico in Rome, where he graduated European high jump champion crossing 2.37 on the first attempt and signing the best world performance of the season. The Olympic Champion got back into the game eight days after the third continental apotheosis of his career, but failed to shine at the JBL Jump Festmeeting of the World Continental Tour (bronze level, the fourth most important international circuit).
The renamed Gimbo struggled to express himself at his best in that day Kosice (Slovakia), in a square context obviously very different from the stadium experience that the champion from the Marche region is used to. Gianmarco Tamberi crossed 2.19 and 2.23 meters on the first attempt, but then ran into three errors at 2.27 and had to say goodbye to the race early. That quota is causing problems for the blue, given that at the European Championships he had also knocked down the bar twice before managing to save himself and invent the golden magic.
Our standard bearer concluded in second position behind the Turkish Alperen Acetwhich crossed 2.27 in the third bout. Third place for Manuel Lando, who saves himself at 2.19 and then hits 2.23 on the first test. Fourth place tied (2.19) for the Czech Jan Stefela and the Bulgarian Tihomir Ivanov. No alarm bells for Gianmarco Tamberiwho had amazed the capital and who has nothing to prove towards the 2024 Paris Olympics: we will see him again competing in Szekesfehervar (Hungary) on 9 July.
