Olimpia, Flaccadori: “We looked at each other after G1 with Trento”

Interviewed by Matteo Gandini and Pierluigi Pardo in the “DAZN Got Game” vodcast, Diego Flaccadori he commented on the Scudetto just won with his EA7 Emporio Armani Milan: “The celebrations for this triumph, being the first Scudetto for me, continue (laughs, ed.). The vote for our season? A 7, because in any case winning an Italian championship does not cover the difficulties we have had during the year but having achieved a great seasonal goal must fill us with pride and happiness. It is clear that the future objectives will be to do better next year also in the Euroleague, this year, despite some super victories, we had some defeats that hurt us, without having the continuity that could make us fight for the playoffs. I would give my season a 7, because I tried to be as consistent as possible although obviously in a team like Milan there are periods in which you play less. I’m happy because in any case I always managed to have my balance without getting too down on myself when I wasn’t playing, taking advantage of the opportunities that coach Messina gave me, especially in the Scudetto playoffs.”

The key match of these playoffs for Milan was Game 1 against Trento and the way the team reacted to that knockout.: “Absolutely yes. We arrived at the playoffs aware that we had to achieve the big objective and that we had lost the Italian Cup in the final and that we had struggled in the Euroleague. We knew for ourselves that we had to win the Scudetto, aware that we deserved it for the work we did during the year. Having reached the playoffs and losing that Game 1, I think it was the definitive blow of the season to unite us. After that match we looked at each other and said the things that needed to be said at that moment. I think that absolutely helped us to turn around and make an almost clear path to the end.”

The San Juan Pre-Olympic is in Flaccadori’s short-term future: “We know that we will be followed by all of Italy and the hope is to be able to create the best possible group, that alchemy to be able to try to achieve a result that would be important, that is, making the Olympics in Paris. An extra motivation to do the Olympics in such a fascinating place, it’s something that is very stimulating.”
