Joe Roberts focused on Moto2: ‘I prefer not to think about MotoGP until I have an offer’

Joe Roberts is finally in the fight for the Moto2 title. In his seventh season, at 26 years old, he sits in second place in the championship with one victory and four podiums in seven races. At the same time, he has been linked to MotoGP for next year, with rumors suggesting he is a strong candidate for Trackhouse Racing.

In an interview with GPOne.com, the American made no secret that he feels more pressure from the 2024 results: ‘It’s certain that winning can help. Wins, pole positions, podiums, these are all things that decision makers pay close attention to. I feel a lot of pressure this season because I’m getting good results. I don’t want to think about it too much; I have been competing in this category for several years and this year I have the chance to fight for the title, so I will focus on that. As for my future, it’s clear that the interest in having an American rider in MotoGP is growing, but we’ll see what happens’.

Asked how difficult it is to stay focused on the task at hand amid all the speculation, Roberts stressed that he prefers not to pay attention to the issue until he has a formal offer:

The fact that we are already talking about the future at this point in the season can certainly be a distracting element, but I have worked a lot on my mental strength, also thanks to the people close to me. I prefer not to think about it until I have the offer in front of me; the paddock loves to talk and speculate, which is normal. I have people who take care of this, so I can focus on my job as a pilot.
