Sipped over four days, they were revealed on social media 37 players in Italy’s rowing squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics: was the composition of the eight qualified crews was defined and the three reserves were chosen who will take part in the Games.
Italy qualified five boats at the 2023 World Championships And three in the final regatta of 2024: the presence of the two flagships between the latter means that compared to Tokyo 2020, despite one less crew, there are well 11 more blues (8 boats against 9, but 34 starting athletes against 23). The three reserves were obtained with the qualifications of four without senior men and eight senior men, of the qsenior men’s pair fours and eights senior female, but they can be used on all boats.
Italy could choose the crew members relating to the quotas obtained at the 2023 World Championshipscalling up different athletes in each boat to the Paris Games than those who had qualified, with the athletes themselves, at the same time, being able to compete in different events at the Olympics to those in which they competed in 2023, while The crews that qualified in the final regatta of 2024 they should have had the same composition at the Olympicsunless changed for medical reasons.
Obligatory choices, therefore, as regards four without senior men, eight senior women and eight senior menbut Italy has confirmed also four of the five crews qualified for the 2023 World Championships, that is men’s lightweight doubles, men’s senior double sculls, men’s senior doubles and men’s senior twos.
The only one variation concerns the composition of senior women’s doublesqualified for the 2023 World Championships with seventh place by Stefania Buttignon and Silvia Crosio, which will instead see the Italians competing at the Games Clara Guerra and Stefania Gobbi. Stefania Buttignoninstead, it will be reserve in Paris, together with Davide Mumolo and Alfonso Scalzone.
